Services Provided at Primary Health Group

Our practice provides a wide range of services including;

Urgent Care
We can provide many urgent care services in the office, including laceration repair and minor orthopedic injuries. Severe injuries and life-threatening illnesses are better treated in the Emergency Department at the hospital.
Newborn Care
Although we do not see newborns in the hospital, we are happy to receive them into the practice after they leave the hospital. We currently have an arrangement with Richmond Pediatrics to see newborns for us at CJW. It is always a good idea to talk with your doctor before delivery so that we may be aware of any obstetrical problems which may have an effect on the infant, and when we should arrange to see your baby after discharge from the Newborn Nursery.
Pediatric Care
We are trained at managing general Pediatric health problems and feel that there is a special benefit that a Family Physician can bring to the medical care of a child. Family health issues, both medical and social, can play a role in the health and wellbeing of a child, and we feel that in knowing the entire family we are particularly well-suited to bring the perspective of family dynamics into our treatment of the children we see.
Obstetric Care
We do not provide Obstetric services. If you are pregnant, we will be happy to suggest an Obstetrician for you. We are available to see you for routine gynecologic care and wellness visits.
Preventive Medicine
As Family Physicians, we consider ourselves to be your primary resource for maintaining wellness. We will be available to provide you with the services you require for health maintenance screenings, either in the office or by referral to diagnostic facilities. We strive to be knowledgeable about new technological advancements, and how those advancements might be covered by your insurance.
Medical Targets - How does your blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar compare to the normal ranges ? What cancer screenings should you have and when ? What immunizations should Adults have ? Find out on our Medical Targets Chart.
Chronic Disease Monitoring
We are expert at managing many complex chronic disease states which might lessen quality and duration of life. We are very capable in the management of Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), Type 2 Diabetes, many chronic pulmonary (lung) diseases, Osteoarthritis, and a host of other chronic medical conditions where we function as the patient's primary, and at times only, physician contact.
If a specialist is necessary, either by medical necessity or patient request, we have excellent working relationships with consultants in all medical and surgical fields throughout the Tri-Cities area. Our goal is to provide the patient with the finest medical care available and to assist them within the relationship that is the basis of Family Medicine.
Minor Surgical Procedures
Many minor surgical procedures can be done in our office and do not require specialty referral. See your doctor when these problems arise and a lengthy wait for specialty referral may be avoided without any compromise in quality of care and generally at a lower out-of-pocket cost to the patient.
Form Completion
The completion of all forms, including FMLA, disability, Nursing Home placement, school and pre-operative physicals, is extremely time-consuming and will usually require the presence of the patient in order to be completed properly. Please schedule an appointment for the completion of forms and please describe what is required on the form so that the receptionist can schedule enough time for your visit.
Referrals
If your insurance requires referrals from your Primary Care Physician, this service must be arranged at least 48 hours before the appointment with the specialist. Once an appointment is made with the specialist, call our office number (271-8990) and choose menu option #5 to leave a message with our referral coordinator. Be prepared to include your insurance information, the details of your upcoming appointment with the specialist, and which of our doctors suggested the referral. You will generally not receive referral approval for problems we have not managed or dealt with in our office.
Inpatient Services
To maximize our availability to our patients in the office, we no longer treat patients in the hospital. Our adult and pediatric hospital services are provided by inpatient specialists (Hospitalists). Should you require urgent hospital admission from the office or Hospital Emergency Department, we will communicate with the Hospitalist to maintain continuity of medical care through the hospitalization and upon follow-up after discharge.
